Easter
All
Ecuadorians know, regardless of religion, which in late March or early April
comes Holy Week, after meeting Lent, counting from Carnival festivities.
All
around the world, Holy Week and Easter
are key dates in the Christian calendar. The Week, as it is also known,
officially begins with Palm Sunday, in which the branches of different designs,
made of palm fibers, are blessed during Masses celebrated throughout this day;
and culminates on Easter Sunday.
During
this week the Passion and Death of our Lord Jesus Christ, and finally, his
resurrection, is commemorated on Easter Sunday.
Traditions
In
our country, mainly Catholic population, is celebrated with various events,
such as church services, fasting, penance, spiritual retreats, praying the
rosary, prayer walking the stations that describe different instances of the
Passion of Christ, the visit of the Seven Holy Thursday churches, etc., alone
or in family, in meetings loaded meanings and religious symbolism, according to
the degree of commitment that every Catholic provide these dates.
Food
enjoying
a plate of Fanesca, for many, delicious, for others, too heavy for digestion,
whose ingredients correspond to what represents the date: fish, usually cod
air-dried salted, in honor of Jesus, known such as the Fisherman of Men; and
the twelve different grains, representing the twelve apostles. This dish brings
together around the table, family, friends and neighbors and prepared in large
quantities. It is also accompanied by the delicious tamales salt or sweet.
Music
The
International Festival of Sacred Music is one of the most important expressions
of Holy Week Quito. This year will be held from 13 to 24 March. It includes
recitals praise with tunes of the seventeenth century to contemporary music,
with performers of the highest quality from different countries. This year
